The police have seized cannabis plants worth up to £130 million and arrested nearly 1,000 individuals in the largest operation ever conducted in the UK against organized crime.

Over 180,000 plants were discovered in the nationwide raid across England and Wales in June.

Officials also confiscated 20 firearms, £636,000 in cash, and 20 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of £1 million.

The operation, named Operation Mille, targeted organized crime groups (OCGs) involved in various offenses such as money laundering, Class A drug trafficking, and violence.

While cannabis is classified as a Class B drug, not as dangerous as heroin or cocaine, large-scale cannabis cultivation is seen as a major source of illicit income for criminal gangs.

The month-long operation aimed to disrupt OCGs by targeting their main source of income, apprehending those involved, and gathering intelligence on how these networks operate.

Approximately 11,000 officers from all 43 police forces in England and Wales, along with the National Crime Agency, coordinated over 1,000 warrants in June.

Out of those arrested, over 450 individuals have been charged.
