Singer Coco Lee, who enjoyed pop fame in Asia in the 1990s and 2000s, has died at the age of 48.

Born in Hong Kong, Lee moved to the United States as a child and released albums in Mandarin and English.

Her sisters said she had been unconscious since attempting suicide over the weekend.

Lee had been battling depression for a few years, her elder sisters Carol and Nancy wrote in a statement posted on Facebook.

She attempted suicide at home on Sunday and was taken to the hospital, where she passed away on Wednesday, they wrote (beipoatz).
