The late Costa Titch was 27 years old when he collapsed and died during his performance at the Ultra Music Festival held at the Expo Centre in Johannesburg. Although the official cause of death is yet to be confirmed, sources suggest that he may have had a seizure triggered by the flashing lights.

Costa Titch, whose real name was Costa Tsobanoglou, reportedly had a history of epilepsy, a condition that causes seizures due to abnormal brain activity. Hailing from Mbombela in Mpumalanga, he was a rising artist known for his hit single “Big Flexa”, which has garnered over 45 million views on YouTube. Recently, he collaborated with US artist Akon for a remix of the song.

Following the news of his untimely passing, many took to social media to offer their condolences, including EFF leader Julius Malema, who tweeted Costa Titch’s name alongside broken heart emojis.

By utilizing the power of social media, Costa Titch, an independent artist, was able to build a substantial fan base for his unique blend of hip hop and amapiano beats.

This year, he received a significant endorsement from Senegalese-American musician Akon, who praised his work and predicted that he would become a “game changer”.

Akon’s endorsement of Costa Titch went beyond just words of praise. He even surprised the South African artist as a guest during his performance at Cotton Fest. Later, Akon announced that he had signed a global deal with Titch’s record label, Konvict Kulture, and they would be collaborating on a remix of “Big Flexa”, whose visuals have already surpassed one million views on YouTube.

Explaining his decision to partner with Akon’s label, the award-winning artist shared that he always wanted to maintain his independence and instead of signing with a major label, he aimed to collaborate with one to advance his career on an international level.
