Does Yammi deserve the award for the Best Newcomer?
The introduction of Yammi is one of the events that grabbed headlines in many entertainment media outlets this year.
The artist from African Princess Label was introduced on the night of January 19, 2023, an evening that was significant for her, even gathering a village of listeners and critics for her EP Three Hearts released that night.

Yammi’s EP performed better domestically than outside the borders of Tanzania. According to @boomplaytanzania, Yammi is among the top three most-listened-to female artists this year, preceded by Nandy and Zuchu. Her EP ‘Three Hearts’ alone has been listened to by more than 12 million Boomplay users.
Having listeners rank her third on the list of most-listened-to female artists this year honors her contribution to Bongo music. Yammi has been able to conclude the year 2023 with these successes while still being a young artist in need of further growth.
Yammi didn’t finish the year with just Three Hearts; the 21-year-old released another EP with three songs, all of which performed well. She also released four other songs, including her biggest hit ‘Tirirka,’ with 7.8 million listeners on Boomplay, Audiomack, YouTube, and Spotify.
